Complicated Things

Life is sometimes very interesting.

I’m 50. Father of 8 kids. 4 grandkids. Been married for 30 years to an amazing woman who puts up with my stupidity and nerdiness.

We live in a modest pre-built house. Kind of small and broken in places, but big enough for us. We probably have too much stuff and a weird obsession with movies as evidenced by our VHS and DVD collection (yes, old school tapes we started collecting about the time we got married.)

But I digress. The point is, here in my midlife things are pretty comfortable, or at least they were.

Without going into too much personal detail, let’s just say some wrenches got thrown into the mix and my comfortable life has been shaken up. Again. Mostly good, but it’s going to take some adjusting and planning to smooth things.

But isn’t that the nature of life? Isn’t that how life is SUPPOSED to be?

Humans aren’t meant to be in a constant state of comfort. As much as we’d love to stay in our warm beds wrapped in soft blankets, that’s not how we’re meant to exist.

Stuff is SUPPOSED to happen. We’re supposed to MAKE stuff happen.

Without it, we stagnate. We become lazy, sedate. Things blur together and life slips by.

Embrace the complicated. Accept it as what it is, life. Real life.
